Chapter 1

The sun is rising as Sam hears the jingle of car keys still recovering from her sleep Sam gets out of her room and goes downstairs to see her father leaving for work. “Hey honey,” Mr.Campbell greets his daughter. “Hey Dad,” Sam yawns while greeting her dad. “Honey I’m going to work, breakfast will be ready soon. Now get ready for the day, eat breakfast, then get to work you hear me.” Mr.Campbell says to his daughter. “Yes, Dad,” as she comes to hug her Dad. “I love you Dad,” Sam says goodbye to her Dad. “I love you too Sam,” Mr.Campbell says as he hugs his daughter, “I got to go now, bye honey.” Mr.Campbell says as he leaves and locks the door. “Bye Dad,” as she sees her dad leave.

Sam goes back upstairs to get dressed, she takes a look at her closet and decides to wear a matching outfit. A big brown coffee shirt with some coffee-printed sweat pants. Sam brushes her long blonde hair, washes her face when she sees her big brown eyes. Sam gets out of her room and goes down to see a plate of eggs and toast, she decides to make her morning coffee and watch some TV while she eats her breakfast. Sam turns on the remote to watch her favorite cartoons when suddenly the news comes up. “What’s happening?” Sam asked herself as she now sees a reporter on screen.

“Hello everyone, we interrupt your daily shows for some big news, good morning everyone I’m Ronna Mitchell and this is Castle-News. Today we will be talking about the outings of these mythical creatures roaming around our beloved city New Castle of New Hampshire. Here we have a grocery store that was robbed last night. For further details, we have Danielle explain more take it away Danielle,” as Ronna fades from the screen and Danielle is in the picture. “Thank you Ronna, and yes there was entering last night, now folks this isn’t no ordinary robbery. Here we see hooves of some sort and some human-like hands, could this be one of those mysterious creatures we keep on seeing? It must be and now look its StrikeLab!”

There is a big white van of StrikeLab employees and police driving up to the crime scene. “Here is the man himself Mr.Strike!” as Danielle and the cameraman walk up to Mr.Strike to ask some questions. “Oh, Mr.Strike please comfort us what do you have to say in this matter?” Danielle says putting the microphone close to Mr.Strike’s face. “Well, my dear my team and I are working on this mythical case to see what’s going and to see what we are going to do about it,” Mr.Strike says as the public behind the caution tape claps and cheers as Mr.Strike enters the grocery store. “Well, Folks you heard the man they have everything under control, back to you Ronna,” as Danielle fades from the screen and back to Ronna. "Thank you, Danielle, now folks that's all for today from Castle News," Ronna says as she fades from the screen and back to her cartoon

Sam turned off the TV, freaked out, and confused l, someone like her? She thought it could never be, she used to keep her hopes down but now she's excited. "I never thought, I mean I always knew there was someone like me but I never thought that one was so close to me before," Sam says as she starts to think of connecting someone like her with a hybrid like her. As Sam got out of her thoughts Sam got her laptop and went to work at her online school.

Time has passed and Mr.Campbell has just gotten home from work. "Honey I'm home," Mr.Campbell says as he enters the house. "Hi Dad," Sam says as she closes her laptop as she is finished with school. "How was work?" Sam asked as she went over to hug him. "Very busy than usual dear, I guess you must've heard about the entering at the grocery store last night huh?” Mr.Campbell said, “Now you this is why you’re homeschooled honey because if you reveal about your siren heritage they will find you.” Mr.Campbell reminded his daughter. “Yes, I know dad,” Sam said while looking down at the floor, “I’m reminded of that every day, but you can’t keep me here forever you know?” Sam said. “I know that honey,” Mr.Campbell said while looking at his phone about notifications about work. “Well, what am I supposed to do dad I’m growing up we have to come up with a plan,” Sam says to her dad. “I know honey, and we will figure it out when you came to adulthood,” Mr.Campbell says to comfort Sam. “Well since I’m half siren, why don’t I just live my life at the water?” Sam suggests. “That’s out of the question,” Mr.Campbell said in a stern tone. “But dad–” “No, out of the question, what if someone sees you dive into the water with your scales, webbed elbows, and ankles,” Mr.Campbell interrupts his daughter. “I’ll be careful,” Sam ensuring her dad. “No, one of these days you’ll be caught, no matter how sneaky you are,” Mr.Campbell said, “I’m sorry honey but you just can’t afford to get caught.” Mr.Campbell said in a tired tone. “Look honey we will talk about this tomorrow, let's just get some sleep,” Mr.Campbell said going to his room as he stops at the door looking at Sam, “I love you, Sam, good night. Mr.Campbell turns away from Sam. “I love you too dad, goodnight,” Sam says as she sees her father go into his room.

Sam finishes her food and walks back upstairs to her room, as she walks to her mirror. She stares at it while lifting her sleeve to see her sea green-blue scales and her webbed elbows. “When will it be safe for me to go outside?” Sam wondered to herself wondering and waiting for people to accept her siren heritage. “It’s best not to ask questions that no one can answer,” Sam said to herself as decided to go to bed for the day.
