Flexibility Through Mobility

Did you know that Orion's courses are mobile compatible?  Orion's revision of courses has included both HTML5 compatibility as well as mobile friendly modules for courses.  Courses are either created with the Articulate Storyline App (see below for download information), or with the iSpring App (see below for download information).  Either of these two apps allow for learners to download the course modules.  What is the benefit of downloading course modules?  The biggest benefit is that once downloaded, course modules can be viewed offline!  If there are assessments or quizzes in the module, the quizzes can be completed offline, and then will update to the course room, once the learner is back online.

The third application that must be downloaded, is Orion's TeamViewer meeting application (see download information below). TeamViewer is used for weekly meetings with the mentor, and the application can use either voice over IP, through the user's microphone, or the user can call in to the mentor and follow along with the meeting.  The only difference between having a mobile meeting versus having a meeting via the laptop or desktop, is that the mentor cannot hand over screen share to the learner.  That's a very minor problem.  The solution:  Upload your assignment/presentation into your homework folder, and your mentor will pull it up on screen share, and you can still present!  That's a great solution to a minor issue.

Assignments Uploading into the Folder(s)

The are some limitations to some mobile devices, such as the iPad.  Some mobile devices do not allow a user to upload word documents, presentations, etc. via the mobile device only.  The iPad, for example, will allow the user to upload a video or a picture directly.  For math, that might work really well, if you take a picture/scan of your assignment; however, for documents, and presentations, that will not work.  The user can create the documents on the mobile device, save the documents, and then log in on a laptop or desktop to upload the documents.  Again, a minor issues, with an easy fix!

Mobility Has Advantages

With Orion's courses, mobility has many advantages!  ThereAll courses may be accessed via larger mobile devices (we do not recommend smaller devices such as iPhone, or other similar sized devices.  In order to take advantage of our fully mobile-compatible courses, learners must download the following applications:

storyline app Pic Storyline application allows users to view our content through the application.  The benefit is that content can be downloaded for viewing offline.  This is a free application.  Locate the Storyline application in your appropriate download store, like iTunes, etc.
ispring Mobile app Pic Some of our courses have been built with iSpring software; therefore, the course will prompt you to view in the iSpring Mobile App.  You can download this free application in your appropriate download store.
TV Meetings App Pic Meet with your teacher/mentor using Orion's TeamViewer for Meetings application.  Download the free application in your appropriate download store.  The app uses voice over IP (or, your microphone) to talk with your teacher.  You can view your teacher's screen, during your meeting.

The simplicity of using the applications, above, makes learning flexible and mobile!  Some assignments will require you to log in via a laptop or desk top in order to upload documents, etc; however, if you are simply scanning a document or taking a picture of your document, you can upload via your mobile device as easy as 1, 2, 3!
